The Climax!!!

The climax of the book did fill my expectations. What I thought would happen, happened, so no surprise there. I knew that Rick would end up killing Roy, Irmgard and Pris. It was odd and made me sad for some reason. I thought the whole book was a little odd to be completely honest but I have been enjoying reading it so far. It is just weird how anroids seem so smart and then they go and open the door to their own early deaths. One second, the humans have so much empathy, and the next moment they are killing the last of the andys. The whole story sort of contradicts itself in a sense. For example, the andys being so smart in some cases and stupid in others, like when Roy asked who was at the door and believed that it was really Isidore. And when humans think they can get away with anything and everything will stay the same in their own personal lives, like when Rick slept with that silly Nexus 6 and dropped her in a hurry, and then she pushed his goat off of the roof in return. The climax was just not surprising to me.

Interesting Scene

Something I found very interesting in the chapters we recently read in Do Anroids Dream of Electric Sheep? is when Isidore attempts to help out the last three andys. He knocks on Pris's door first of all, and she claims to be Rachel Rosen. Then she tells him her real name. He offers her some food and wine and then two other andys knock at her apartment door. It is Roy and Irmgard Baty, and they are looking for somewhere to stay. Isidore offers them protection and says they can all move in with him. Roy actually wants to kill Isidore. I think he feels that Isidore is going to turn them into a bounty hunter. I find this scene interesting because Roy starts to build a device to warn the last three andys when a bounty hunter has come into the midst. It will trigger the bounty hunter to basically freak out and run away. It is cool that Roy designed the device around Isidore. He made the setting alarm when another human has arrived so that Isidore does not feel panicked when he is in the apartment.

How does Roy know how to design an alarm like the one he made in the previous chapters, if he is only a Pharmacist on Mars?

Chapter 11 Interests

In chapter 11, I found that peer review seemed pretty helpful and interesting. It also seemed like an easy way to review your rough draft. I liked how your readers of your rough draft would leave a question mark where they didn't understand what you were talking about. It makes a lot of sense. The reader should also leave a star or something to mark that they believed a passage was well written and you got the point across. When the writer leaves a question mark, they should take notes on why they got confused so they can further discuss your error. It is a really helpful idea in my opinion. This will help you get strong feedback and allow you to revise you paper faster. Before you return the paper to the writer, you should look back through to see in what areas they can improve their paper. The peer review should take notes again and inform the writer to make their paper a more successful one.

Do Anroids Dream?

I found it really odd that the people in "Do Anroids Dream?" can control their moods by this device. They wake up in the morning and turn the dial to control how they will feel the whole day. It doesn't seem human to me that you can control your emotions by a machine. I don't understand why they have that mood device. I also found it interesting that there are so many odd animals in this story. For example, Rick Deckard has a sheep and then gets an electric sheep because his first one passes away. Also, there is an ostrich that comes into play. I don't understand the meaning of all of these odd animals that Rick Deckard obtains. It is weird that the electric sheep is on top of Rick's roof. Also they talk about a donkey and a toad. I just don't get the meaning of all these diverse creatures.

Chapter 1-3: What I found that I didn't know.

In chapters one through three, I was informed by a lot of new writing skills I have never encountered before. I never knew about all of the writing concepts. I think they will help me out a lot in my future writing assignments. Concept three is very educational. It made me realize that I am always writing for a purpose and an audience. For example, the questions,"What do I want my readers to know? Do they care? What are their assumptions? What kind of document am I writing?" These all have to do with rhetorical aim as a purpose and really helps me understand better writing. Also, something I knew little about was, logos, ethos, and pathos. Logos appeal to reason, pathos appeal to the sympathies, values, believes, and emotions, while ethos appeal to the character of the speaker/reader. These three things are important in arguments when the writer wants to take a persuasive aim. I am really I learned about these three things because they will totally help me to draw in my readers and and put them under my writing spell. Another more thing I was unaware of, was that thesis statements should not only be believable, but they should also surprise the reader. I learned so much in these first few chapters, but reading strategies helped me out doing the rest of my homework last night. I took notes on all of my reading assignments, I looked up words I didn't understand, I slowed down my reading speed when I knew I really needed to remember something, and I sped up when I was reviewing and skimming. I also learned that if I want a strong response, I need to ask questions. For example, "How well does the text suit its particular audience? What is the writer's purpose?" and, "Who is the intended audience?" Chapters one through three were super informative and helped me out a lot.

Eglish 151

English 151 is a writing class that is going to teach us how to write better and be confident in writing for other courses we are taking. The theme of the class is Apocalypse and we will be reading "Do Anroids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick. We are writing a blog to think more clearly and improve our writing. I have recently decided I enjoy reading. I recently read Dear John, The Last Song, and some war books my brother bought for me. I have not really been exposed to writing correctly. My senior year was really one of the first times I was asked to write an essay. Current technology that I can use include the following: cell phone and computer.
